Summer Missionary Positions
At Willow Springs Camp, we don't hire positions, we hire people! Of course, this doesn't negate the responsibilities and roles we have to fill, but it does help us to emphasize the importance of mission and unity! If you are looking for a community focused on serving Jesus and presenting him to the next generation in an impact full way, Willow Springs Camp could be the place for you.
Team Roles
Kitchen Team
This position which includes preparing food, setting up the dining hall, cleaning dishes and general kitchen duties. The work priority of staff in this position is work in the kitchen, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in camp activities including helping with skills and devotions. Kitchen staff are at least 15 years old and report to the Cook and Assistant Cook. Kitchen staff are expected to assist with a designated cabin and be a part of cabin activities such as devotions at designated times. The Kitchen Staff are to strive to be a good example to campers and staff in their relationship with God.
- Setting tables and setting up dish bins before each meal
- Serving food during meals
- Assisting with unloading of delivery trucks
- Washing all dishes, pots, and pans, etc. and putting them away after each meal
- Follow all daily and weekly kitchen cleaning schedules (includes sweeping floors, mopping, and cleaning of sinks and other surfaces)
- May be required to complete Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
Maintenance Team
The maintenance staff are involved in keeping the camp neat and clean. This position involves maintaining the grounds, cleaning the washrooms, chapel, and other camp areas. Maintenance staff also have opportunities to get involved in camp activities including helping with skills and devotions. The maintenance staff are at least 15 years old and report to the Maintenance Team Leader. Maintenance Staff are expected to assist with a designated cabin and be a part of cabin activities such as devotions at designated times. The Maintenance Staff are to strive to be a good example to campers and staff in their relationship with God.
- Dining hall clean-up
- Bathroom cleaning
- Emptying waste receptacles around camp property regularly, and the collection and placement of garbage weekly in the mornings on garbage day
- Ensuring that recyclables are kept in a tidy fashion and are placed at the roadside on collection day
- Washing camp windows once per week
- Tidying the chapel daily
- Trimming and lawn work
- Watering flowers daily
- Working on Camp Projects (nature trails, repairs, etc.)
- Waterfront upkeep
- Equipment maintenance
- Minor building repairs and upkeep
- Other maintenance duties as assigned by Maintenance Team Leader
- May be required to complete Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
- Assisting with and perhaps leading Cabin Devotions for their designated cabin that they assist with, which includes teaching from the Bible and prayer
- Praying with or for campers or fellow Summer Team Member
- Helping run a campfire once a week
- Modeling Christian values and morals to other Summer Team Members
Leadership Roles
Program Directors
Programming is a demanding position for emotionally and spiritually mature individuals with servants’ hearts. This position is for someone who is organized, motivated, and creative. The programmer is responsible for creating fun, yet challenging and safe activities and have a desire to see children and staff grow in Christ through their camp experience.
- Development and implementation of the theme (or themes) for the summer
- Assisting in planning and leadership of monthly preparation meetings (April, May)
- Communicating with camp leadership
- Planning and overseeing all activities
- Directing, mentoring, encouraging and leading their Program Assistants throughout the week
- Modeling Christian morals and values to Summer Team Members and campers to challenge them to do the same
- Constantly searching for ways to improve the program, while being careful to stay within budget
- Maintaining open communication between Summer Team Members, campers, Lead Team, and occasionally with parents
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Assistant Director
- Other duties as required or as they arise
Male & Female Area Leads
The MAL and FAL are responsible for daily check-ins with Summer Missionaries, assisting the Cabin Leaders and Program Director(s) through difficult situations, assisting all other Summer Missionaries with their devotions, and substituting in for people who need rest. The MAL and FAL will work closely with the Camp Director and Programmers to ensure clear communication and meeting of expectations across the board.
- Mentoring Senior Cabin Leaders and encouraging them in their personal relationship with God
- Mentoring Junior Cabin Leaders and Secret Service Team Members as needed
- Managing arrivals and departures of Day Campers
Leadership role in Summer Team devotions, which includes but is not limited to, teaching from the Bible, prayer and leading worship songs - Stepping into the role of Cabin Leader in case of illness or in the event of any other absence
- Assisting with skills as needed
Cabin Leaders
Cabin Leaders love being with kids, are energetic, and live their lives as positive role models sharing the love of Christ. Cabin Leaders are mature with a fun-loving attitude. Junior Cabin Leaders are at least 17 years old and exhibit strong, compassionate leadership, always encouraging and guiding campers to enable them to become all that they are capable of becoming.
- Ensuring campers are receiving appropriate levels of care and attention
- Assisting with the effective delivery of the program
- Where applicable, keeping careful inventory of area of responsibility (cabin, skills, etc.)
- Developing and maintaining proficiency in instructional areas (skills, devotions)
- Teaching or assisting with skills and activities (Cabin Leaders may be asked to be in charge of a skill area)
- Lining up with campers before chapel, meals, and games
- Listening attentively to promote development of individuals and unity of the body
- Leading campers by example in every activity and routine
- Taking a leadership role in Cabin Devotions by teaching the Bible and leading prayer
- Making it a point daily to lift up and encourage campers and fellow Team Members
- Demonstrating a servant attitude by lending a helping hand when needed
- Maintaining open communication between Summer Team Members, campers, and with parents
- Sitting with campers during meal times and interacting, supervising, and maintaining order
- Helping campers get ready in the morning for the day and in the evening for bed
- Ensuring cabin clean up takes place each day
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
- Creating a theme for and setting an appropriate tone in the cabin
- Organizing cabin devotions which include teaching from the Bible and prayer
- Mentoring and leading their Junior Cabin Leaders
- Ensuring the completion of Friday night cabin cleaning, and checking the smoke detector
- Reporting necessary repairs to Maintenance Team Leader
- Mentoring and encouraging other Cabin Leaders and Secret Service Team Members in their relationship with Christ
- Modeling Christian values and morals to other Summer Team Members
Hospitality Director
For those who enjoy preparing nourishing yet simple meals, this is a rewarding position. The position includes meal planning, menu preparation, and food ordering. Previous kitchen experience is an asset. The Hospitality Director is ultimately responsible for maintaining health and safety standards and supervises the kitchen staff alongside the kitchen team leader.
- Planning all menus on a weekly basis following Canada’s Food Guide
- Preparing all meals and snacks
- Helping train and supervise Kitchen Team Members in various duties
- Ordering all food and kitchen supplies
- Working within a budget as set by Camp Director
- Keeping an inventory of all food and supplies
- Putting away all food from meals and prepping for the next meals
- Supervising food delivery and facilitating storage
- Conducting Sunday afternoon meetings with Maintenance Team Leader to prepare Secret Service Team for the week
- Scheduling appropriate shift rotation and ensuring equal opportunity and sharing of responsibilities within the Kitchen Team
- Mentoring and discipling the Kitchen Team Members in their relationship with God
- Leading devotions, discussions and prayer times for Kitchen Team Members
- Modeling Christian values and morals to other Summer Team Members
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
Assistant Hospitality Director
The Assistant Hospitality Director is a mature and responsible individual. This person is spiritually mature and has a desire to see young people grow in Christ through service in the Kitchen. The Assistant Hospitality Director’s focus is on food preparation, dining hall preparation and clean up. They work alongside Kitchen Staff, helping train them when needed and helping with the tasks they are assigned to do.
- Training and supervising Kitchen Team Members alongside the Hospitality Director in various duties
- Maintaining open and effective communication regarding food service expectations
- Assisting with meal preparation as needed or directed by the Hospitality Director
- Assisting with keeping careful inventory and ordering needs as directed by the Hospitality Director
- Ensuring proper storage of all food and supplies
- Ensuring consumables (e.g. serviettes, juice, etc.) are fully stocked for meals
- Cleaning grill and/ or stovetop after each use and ovens as needed
- Ensuring proper cleaning and operation of major and minor appliances and fixtures
- Doing kitchen laundry as needed
- Organizing evening snack after supper as needed
- Mentoring and discipling the Kitchen Team Members in their relationship with God
- Leading devotions, discussions and prayer times for Kitchen Team Members
- Modeling Christian values and morals to other Summer Team Members
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
Maintenance Team Leader
For someone who enjoys working with young people and leading them as a team, and doing general maintenance. This person is spiritually and emotionally mature, at least 18 years old and has a desire to see young people grow in Christ and develop good working habits. The Maintenance Team Leader oversees the cleanliness, upkeep, and repair of camp facilities. He or she directly supervises and disciples the maintenance staff.
- Training and supervising Maintenance Team in various duties
- Conducting Sunday afternoon meetings with Cook to prepare Secret Service Team for the week
- Leading dining hall and bathroom clean-up after each meal
- Emptying waste receptacles around camp property regularly, and the collection and placement of garbage weekly in the mornings on garbage day
- Ensuring that recyclables are kept in a tidy fashion and are placed at the roadside on collection day
- Leading the washing of camp windows once per week

- Leading trimming and lawn work

- Providing counsel and guidance to Maintenance Team Members based upon Christian values, morals and teachings
- Praying for and with Maintenance Team Members
- Leading morning devotional times with Maintenance team with Christian teaching and values
- Modeling Christian values and morals to other Summer Team Members
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
Waterfront Director
The Head Lifeguard is responsible for the overall safety, operation and supervision of the waterfront and all of its activities. This person is at least 18 years old, with 250 hours of direct aquatic experience, and possesses an NLS Certificate (including valid certification in both Standard First Aid and CPR). A mature, safety conscious person who loves the outdoors is needed for this position. The Waterfront Director provides the safest environment possible in regards to swimming and boating activities.
- Creating lifeguard schedule for each FreeTime
- Ensuring a consistent 15 minute rotation during guarding
- Conducting daily team meetings with lifeguards
- Organizing and instructing missing swimmer/person procedure: “Air Horn Drill”
- Debriefing after incidents/drills
- Organizing Waterfront Binder
- Reading OCA Standards on Swimming
- Being the liaison between ministry of labor and camp
- Tending to all medical emergencies
- Ensuring lifeguards are in proper dress for their shift and are properly equipped
Health and Safety Administrator
This person is at least 18 years old, and holds a valid certification in both Standard First Aid and CPR. The health and safety administrator is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of all campers and staff. This includes addressing illness and injury, administering medications appropriately, keeping careful documentation of all health and safety intervention, and communicating with parents or guardians about serious issues if necessary. Working with the Camp Director, they are also responsible for ensuring staff receive ongoing wellness support. Additionally, this personal will be considered for the role of Waterfront Director. See description above.

Program Assistant
The program assistant is a job offered to our second year staff. It is offered all summer but each week will be filled with different staff members (one female and one male). This job consists of many aspects. You will primarily assist the Programmers and help with the daily program. This includes but is not limited to: setting up games, running activities or special nights, helping with the kitchen or maintenance, or helping in a cabin as needed. This job is a leadership opportunity to work one on one with the programmers to develop leadership skills and learn more about yourself. The program assistant reports to the Programmers.
- Daily meetings with Program Directors
- Flexibility to go where needed
- Running at least one camp-wide game on their own
- Assisting the Program Director(s) as needed.
- The first to step into a skill/cabin or other area of responsibility due to sickness or other absences
- The first to step into the kitchen/mantinence if needed.
- Assisting with campfires and special nights as needed
- Completing Mid-Summer and End of Summer Surveys, along with follow up, with the Director
Worship Director
This person has musical abilities, understands the lifestyle of worship, and is capable of organizing and leading song times. Their responsibilities include directing a team of musicians and vocalists as they lead singing in chapel, organizing the campfire times, and helping all other members of the team with devotional organizing. The Worship Director reports to the Programmers.

VIDEOGRAPHER
This person has experience in shooting and editing video, and is in charge of producing the weekly camper video and the end of summer staff video. He or she is capable and organized, and has strong initiative and time management. The videographer reports to the Programmers and Camp Director.
PHOTOGRAPHER
This person has experience in taking and editing photos, and is in charge of capturing weekly cabin photos, as well as other photos throughout each week at camp. He or she is capable and organized, and has strong initiative and time management. The photographer reports to the Programmers and Camp Director.
